"He warned them sternly not to make him known."

Mk 3:7-12

Why did Jesus not want to be made known? Wasn't making known the Father, with whom he is one, a key focus of his mission on earth? Maybe Jesus gave this directive because didn't want to be made known at that particular moment, or in that particular way. Maybe he had something greater in mind. Maybe something else needed to happen first.

If can sometimes be challenging to follow what we know deep in our hearts to be God's will, especially if we desire or envision the realization of a different good. Submitting our finite vision to God's omniscience requires a tremendous humbling of our proud hearts. At moments like this, God is asking us to trust in him more than in ourselves. He is asking us to surrender our pride and our desire to control into his loving hands.

There is no end that God has not foreseen; no ultimate good that he does not desire. We do well to submit to his timing and his will, even when we do not understand it fully. God knows what he is about. We need only trust him, and do as he desires.
